Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (15IAH8, Core i5-12450H)
Why consider it: This is the most powerful processor in this list. Lenovo's PSREF spec sheet lists the Core i5-12450H as an 8-core, 12-thread H-series chip, which is the kind of processor that copes better with compiling code, running several browser tabs with a video call, or light photo editing. It also has a USB-C port that supports charging and display output, an SD card reader and a 47 Wh battery, the biggest here. Lenovo rates it at 7.6 hours in the MobileMark 2018 test, and its weight starts at 1.62 kg.
The drawback: RAM is soldered to the board, with no slot, so you can never add more. Buy the 16 GB version only. Lenovo's sheet notes the 8 GB model runs in single-channel mode, which slows down the built-in graphics.
Check the screen before you pay. The same model comes with three different panels: a 250-nit TN panel or a 300-nit IPS panel (touch or non-touch). TN panels have poorer viewing angles. For example, the 83ER00MDIN version is listed with the 250-nit TN screen, so read the listing's display line, not just the processor.
Who should skip it: Anyone who needs the laptop to last a full day of classes away from a charger, or who wants room to upgrade RAM later.
ASUS Vivobook 15 (X1504VA, Core i5-1334U)
Why consider it: A balanced, quiet everyday laptop. The Core i5-1334U has 10 cores and 12 threads (Digit spec listing). ASUS India's official spec page lists a backlit keyboard with a number pad, a 720p webcam with a privacy shutter, a PCIe 4.0 SSD slot and both USB-A and USB-C ports. In its long review, Laptop Media liked the keyboard's travel and feedback and the accurate touchpad. It also said the single fan stays quiet and can switch off when the laptop is idle. A number pad helps if you enter a lot of figures in Excel for commerce or engineering coursework.
The drawback: The battery is 42 Wh, smaller than the Lenovo's, and the laptop weighs 1.70 kg. Laptop Media called the display "a mixed bag". ASUS's page also lists more than one memory layout for this series: some versions pair 8 GB on the board with a free slot (up to 24 GB), others use a single 16 GB module. If you plan to upgrade, confirm the layout for the exact model code before buying.
Who should skip it: Students who carry their laptop everywhere and want the lightest machine.
ASUS Vivobook Go 15 (E1504FA, Ryzen 5 7520U)
Why consider it: A lighter, cheaper 15.6-inch laptop for notes, browsing, documents and online classes. ASUS's India spec page lists the Ryzen 5 7520U (4 cores, 8 threads), Wi-Fi 6E, a 720p webcam with a privacy shutter and a weight of 1.63 kg. On 30 October 2026 MD Computers listed the 16 GB/512 GB version (E1504FA-BQ2490WS) at ₹42,900, with a 250-nit Full HD screen and one year of warranty. That leaves about ₹7,000 of the budget for a bag, a mouse or an extended warranty.
The drawback: It is the slowest chip in this list. French site Les Numériques scored the E1504FA's performance at 40% while rating its portability highly. RAM is soldered and can't be upgraded, so the 8 GB version is a poor long-term buy. The battery is 42 Wh.
Who should skip it: Engineering and computer science students who will run development tools, virtual machines or design software.
Acer Aspire 3 (A324-53, Core i3-1305U)
Why consider it: The best value if you want to stay well under budget. On 30 October 2026 Acer's India store listed the 16 GB/512 GB version (UN.34RSI.013) at ₹37,490. Acer lists 16 GB of DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to 32 GB through two SO-DIMM slots. That is rare at this price, and it lets the laptop keep up for longer. You also get a 14-inch Full HD IPS screen, a 45.6 Wh battery and a weight of about 1.45 kg, the lightest here, plus a 2 MP webcam with a privacy shutter.
We are also tracking an 8 GB version of this laptop on Flipkart. See the Acer Aspire 3 deal page for its latest checked price and price history.
The drawback: The Core i3-1305U is an entry-level chip, the keyboard is not backlit, and the screen only covers 45% NTSC, so colours look muted. Acer's listing does not include Microsoft Office.
Who should skip it: Students who often work late in dim rooms, or anyone whose course needs a stronger processor.
How to choose between them
- Course load decides the processor. For coding, data work or design software, choose the Lenovo (H-series i5). For notes, Office, research and online classes, any of the four is enough.
- Buy 16 GB of RAM. All four have 16 GB versions. With 8 GB, Windows 11, a browser and a video call fill the memory quickly, and on the Lenovo and Vivobook Go you cannot add more later.
- Check the panel line. Look for "IPS" and 300 nits where possible. A TN or 250-nit screen is harder to use near a window.
- Weight and battery matter more than you think. If you carry the laptop between classes every day, the 1.45 kg Acer is the easiest to carry, and the Lenovo's 47 Wh battery is the largest.
- Compare the exact model code. Laptops with the same name come in many versions. The code at the end of the listing (for example, E1504FA-BQ2490WS) decides the RAM, screen and Office bundle.
